It was recently announced that Chip and Joanna Gaines, through Magnolia Network, will be developing new unscripted content for Max. These upcoming shows are designed to appeal to the whole family.
The Start of Magnolia Network
Chip and Joanna Gaines, of Fixer Upper fame, created Magnolia Network in collaboration with Discovery. The duo wanted to create a space for real people to tell their stories and encourage fans to discover something new. Their programs often showcase DIY work and home renovations, but they have started to expand to reality-based content.
When Discovery merged with WarnerMedia in 2022, Magnolia Network became a part of the HBO and HBO Max ecosystem. It was determined that Magnolia would remain primarily on the Discovery+ platform with select shows being added to the HBO Max library.
New Shows to Come
Max announced some of the new projects the Gaines are developing, all with working titles. One such title is Roller Jam, a series that will watch the best rollerskating groups from across the country compete against each other. Another is Human vs Hamster – a silly competition show that seeks to find whether humans or hamsters are better.
Second Chance Stage will give people who have delayed their dreams to take care of other responsibilities a shot at stardom. Finally, Back to the Frontier puts modern families in the living conditions of pioneers, seeing if they can survive without contemporary conveniences. Premiere dates for these series are yet to be announced.
