5 Movies to Stream on Peacock This August

Peacock
New York, USA, September 2021: hand holding a phone with the Peacock Tv mobile app on the screen with a blurred background background. American video streaming service owned by NBCUniversal

If you purchased a Peacock subscription just so you could rewatch The Office, you ended up getting a lot more than you bargained for – and that’s a good thing. Despite not having nearly as many users as many of its competitors, Peacock has a robust content catalog, especially if you like to binge old favorites. If you’re just getting into its movie scene, check out these titles this August.

8 Mile

Few movies based on the story of a celebrity feature the actual celebrity as an actor. 8 Mile is unique in that way. In one of his few acting roles to date, Eminem plays a fictionalized version of himself across the late great Brittany Murphy. Check out this movie this month, if only to see the reason we have the song “Lose Yourself” (which won Eminem an Oscar).

The Lorax

Even if you don’t have kids, The Lorax is worth watching. Sure it’s darling and its humor is aimed at people younger than 10 years old, but it’s also got genuinely funny moments no matter what age you are, and a strong message that we all need to be reminded of every now and again. It’s also got a fantastic cast and some seriously good tunes to bop your head along to.

Dazed and Confused

It’s hard for a comedy to be universally loved, but such is the case with Dazed and Confused. Starring Jason Landon and Matthew McConaughey, Richard Linklater’s iconic coming-of-age story will forever be heralded as one of the best comedies of all time, and with its availability on Peacock now, there’s never been a better time to give it a try if you haven’t yet.

Shrek

Is there ever a wrong time to watch Shrek? The world’s most famous ogre spawned an entire franchise for a reason. This movie has humor, heart, and storylines that are more relatable than you might think. Suitable for all ages, but even better to watch as an adult, Shrek is the perfect comfort movie to turn on this August.

It’s Complicated

We can debate which Nancy Meyers film is the best later (and we probably will), but there is a serious argument to be made for It’s Complicated. Featuring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin, It’s Complicated depicts romance in the golden years, but it’s charming and endearing enough for any adult to enjoy. It proves that no matter your age, romance is complicated, just as the title suggests.

Each of these titles is streaming now on Peacock.
