Wednesday, the Tim Burton comedy-crime series about the beloved macabre character Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family, has been streaming on Netflix for nearly a year now. The series dropped on the streaming platform in late November 2022, and it was an instant hit.
With Jenna Ortega as the titular character and appearances from many of the other lovably bizarre members of the Addams Family played by famed actors such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Fred Armisen, and Wednesday Addams alum Christina Ricci, Wednesday made an entirely new generation of fans of the creepy and kooky family.
High Praise for Wednesday
Wednesday is weirdly wonderful. Ortega did a fantastic job of making the famed character her own without sacrificing any of the traits she’s become known for. The story was entertaining and expounded on the Addams Family story seamlessly. New details modernized the character in a way that didn’t feel trite or forced. All in all, the series was a massive success, and Netflix quickly renewed it for a second season.
The show, however, was not perfect, and one small detail that Netflix could correct for Season 2 would immensely improve it – Wednesday Season 2 needs to be released in October.
An Ooky Series Befitting of Spooky Season
Everything about Wednesday screams October. It’s a dark murder mystery with a gorgeous autumnal backdrop. It includes characters of all different mythical varieties heavily associated with spooky season. Wednesday Addams is a bona fide Halloween icon (look around this October 31st and count how many people are dressed as the mysterious character). Wednesday is good, but it would be even better if it were dropped at a seasonally appropriate time.

Sure, viewers could wait until October to stream the series – it lives on Netflix and isn’t going anywhere. But half the fun of a popular TV series is watching it at the same time as everyone else. Wednesday is a show with plenty of online discourse, and those who wait almost a year to view it miss out on the discussion.
October is overwhelmed with options for horror lovers. However, there is far less that’s neatly settled in the simply spooky category, and those options are far too often so chintzy they’re not worth watching. While we love pieces like Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic, there isn’t much well-done modern fare for the fans of Halloween who could do without the blood and gore of a slasher film.
Wednesday Season 2 dropping in October would be a big win for the scaredy-cat Halloween celebrants community, and we desperately implore Ted Sarandos to heed our suggestion.
