Warning: Spoilers ahead.
Fans rejoiced when HBO picked up breakout series The White Lotus for a third season after two successful seasons, the first of which premiered amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Season 1 was filmed in Hawaii; season 2 was filmed in Italy; and Variety reports that season 3 will be filmed somewhere in Thailand. The outlet notes that filming has taken place at various Four Seasons resorts, and therefore season 3 might follow suit.
The White Lotus has been just as big a hit among critics as fans. The show has racked up 10 Primetime Emmy Awards, including Oustanding Limited or Anthology Series. However, should the series be nominated after its upcoming third season, it’ll face an entirely different set of competitors as the TV Academy has moved it from the limited or anthology series category to the drama category, per Variety.
Another significant Emmy Award for the show was given to Jennifer Coolidge for her portrayal of Tanya McQuoid. Coolidge and her on-screen husband Jon Gries (Greg Hunt) are the only two actors to have appeared in multiple seasons thus far, but given McQuoid fell off a yacht and died near the Sicilian coast, it’s unlikely she’ll return for season 3. Creator Mike White told Deadline in October 2022, “I think it’s fun to bring somebody back from some season,” so we may see other familiar faces when the show returns.
Plenty of stars have offered to join the cast, though. Jennifer Aniston is the latest to volunteer for a stay at the eponymous resort telling E! News, “I am obsessed with [The White Lotus].” James Marsden, Hayden Panetierre, and Sheryl Lee Ralph are among others who’ve publicly noted they’ll travel wherever White goes. An official release date for the third season has yet to be announced, but it will reportedly air sometime this year.
