With the final part of the final season of The Crown released in mid-December, Netflix has delivered a report that outlines the global impact the show has had both online and in the real world. The report pulls data from TikTok, Google, flight booking site Skyscanner, and English Heritage (a charity that manages over 400 historic sites).

Real-World Influence of ‘The Crown’

The filming of The Crown, as well as the general interest it garnered, created a tangible impact on communities and the economy. The dedication to historical accuracy required teams to hire additional staff to support the intricacies. From creating different wigs for the actors to designing the hundreds of hats worn across the six seasons, the behind-the-scenes creative talent grew with the popularity of the show.

Additionally, the search for flights to London jumped with every season released. While the actual UK economic boost will have to be measured in the upcoming year, 25% of travelers report being inspired to travel to the UK after watching The Crown. Netflix also donated to multiple UK charities dedicated to preserving historical buildings and sites, many of which were referenced or seen in The Crown
