Fall may be known as spooky season, but it should be equally recognized as the perfect time to indulge in some romance. Whether you want a dose of comedy with your romance or a heavy helping of drama, Hulu has you covered in every romance category.
Love & Other Drugs
In Love & Other Drugs, classic rake Jamie Randall is trying to find success in his pharmaceutical sales job. In working with a doctor to convince him to buy the meds he’s peddling, he meets Maggie, who is visiting the doctor for treatment of early-onset Parkinson’s disease. After attempting a casual fling that quickly develops into more, Jamie must determine if he wants to sacrifice the life he is building for love with a woman with a chronic illness.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway give stellar performances that are funny, genuine, and heartfelt. The touching story will have you wondering if the power of love is really enough to overcome even the largest obstacles.
The Fault in Our Stars
Based on the John Green novel of the same name, The Fault in Our Stars shows what happens when you let life take over in the face of unavoidable heartbreak. 16-year-old Hazel Lancaster attends a support group for cancer patients. There she meets Augustus, who is currently in remission and has a wit sharp enough to cut diamonds. As Augustus pushes Hazel to live life to the fullest, there is the always-looming question of when health complications will resurface.
The only thing that overshadows the talent of Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort is how gripping this story of young love is. Grab the tissues for this one as you watch an inevitable love take its course.
Love, Simon
Simon Spier is about to learn that love can be found in many different ways. Love, Simon tells the story of closeted gay teenager Simon as he begins an online friendship with an anonymous user who admits to also being gay. After being blackmailed by a classmate, Simon must navigate the love lives of friends, hide his own big secret, and discover the identity of the email pen pal he so desperately wants to connect with.
Not only is this movie funny and charming, it also does a great job of addressing really delicate topics of family, friendship, and love. The realistic portrayal of relationships and teenage years makes it relatable for younger viewers and a fun way to reminisce for those no longer in their adolescent years.
After
There’s something about a good girl and a bad boy that makes for the perfect romance movie. After follows the story of Tessa Young in her first year of college. After meeting the mysterious Hardin, she can’t seem to stay away from him. Even as Tessa tries to avoid him and Hardin does his best to deny his feelings, the universe has other plans that bring these two together. But will Hardin’s mysterious past drive a wedge between the two?
Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin have incredible chemistry and perfectly portray the college love story so many have imagined. While this was initially written as One Direction fanfiction, it has transformed into a fully developed romance that will leave you with butterflies.
Each of these romances is streaming now on Hulu.
