If you’re looking to binge a new crime show this month, look no further than Hulu’s offerings! From documentaries to dramatic portrayals to fictional stories, Hulu has the stories to keep you entranced … and always looking over your shoulder.

Demons and Saviors

Crime, punishment, and the supernatural come together in the true crime story Demons and Saviors. Almost 40 years ago, Christina Boyer (then known as Tina Resch) was a local media sensation with her purported telekinetic abilities. After being adopted by an extremely religious family, Boyer was subjected to an exorcism and reported abuse at the hands of her adoptive parents. From there, things didn’t get better.

In 1992, roughly 10 years later, Boyer’s three-year-old daughter was found unresponsive in their home while being watched by her husband. The medical examiner reported physical injuries on the child that aligned with child abuse, a claim supported by witnesses. Boyer was quickly arrested and charged with her daughter’s murder.

After 30 years in prison, three former Georgetown students are diving into the case and trying to prove Boyer’s innocence. “Team Tina” believes wholeheartedly that Boyer was not involved because she wasn’t home, but retired detectives remain confident that she’s guilty of the crime. After the evidence and history are laid out, will you be Team Tina or as convinced of her guilt as the nation was?

Reasonable Doubt

If you like your crime shows to have a conflict of morals and identity, you’ll enjoy Reasonable Doubt. Jax is a dynamo lawyer that is valued for her creative thinking when it comes to cases. After taking on a client accused of murder, Jax must navigate her unstable personal life while putting her best foot forward in her new case.

This show shows the intersectionality of gender, race, household role, and career in an interesting – and dramatic – way. Emayatzy Corinealdi portrays a main character that is neither likable nor unlikable, just incredibly human. Reasonable Doubt gives the perfect balance of crime, justice, and personal drama.

Candy

Based on a true story, Candy is the tale of Candy Montgomery and the accusation that she murdered her neighbor, Betty Gore. Candy claims that Betty confronted her about an affair that she had with Betty’s husband, Allan. While there’s no argument that Betty died at the hands of Candy, there is some question about if Candy’s axe-swinging was in self-defense or an attack. With a total of 41 axe strikes, the story shifts slowly in the eyes of everyone watching.

This dramatization follows the story of Candy and Betty becoming friends while navigating their own personal issues. From rocky marriages to pregnancy, this story illustrates how not everything is as perfect as it may seem from the outside. The weight of perfect homes and mundane lives slowly starts to eat away and the people holding all the pieces together.

Jessica Biel and Melanie Lynskey are a truly dynamic pair that perfectly portray 1980s housewives that try desperately to be perfect, with something sinister bubbling just under the surface. There are no rose-colored glasses in this portrayal, only the painful reality of something evil at hand.

Each of these shows is streaming now on Hulu.
