Awards season is just around the corner. Prepare accordingly by streaming these five first-time Grammy nominees.
Noah Kahan
This has been Noah Kahan’s year. The Vermont native exploded on the music scene thanks to collaborative remixes of songs from his 2022 album Stick Season (the expanded version of which he released in 2023) with seasoned vets like Post Malone, Kacey Musgraves, and Hozier, as well as newer artists like Lizzy McAlpine and Zach Bryan.
Coco Jones
Coco Jones is yet another former Disney star shedding her mouse ears in favor of an adult-centric career. Previously best known for her work on the children’s sitcom Good Luck Charlie, Jones fully transitioned to mature entertainment with a role in the Peacock original Bel-Air, and now she’s one of the leading nominees for the 2024 Grammy Awards with a whopping five nominations, including Best New Artist. Her single “ICU” is among her top-streamed songs, and the song’s remix with Justin Timberlake is quickly garnering listens across platforms.
Troye Sivan
Troye Sivan’s rise in the music industry has been steady and organic, finding help from his now decade-long acting career. With roles in notable projects such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Boy Erased (and some objective flops like The Idol), Sivan’s first two Grammy nods this year are further proof that the Australia native is a multifaceted talent. Everybody has been dancing along to his latest album, One Of Your Girls, this fall.
Ice Spice
20203 was Ice Spice’s crash course in surviving the music industry long term. Between her solo work garnering attention from entertainment stalwarts like The Weeknd and Beyoncé to collaborating with prominent female artists like Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, all of whom have earned their tenure, Ice Spice likely barely had time to even submit her name to the Academy. She’s a contender in four categories at the 2024 Grammy Awards, two of which come from her work for Barbie.
Gracie Abrams
A friend of fellow first-time and Best New Artist nominee Noah Kahan, Gracie Abrams has been busy the past couple of years opening for former Best New Artist contender Taylor Swift and winner Olivia Rodrigo. Fans of Abrams were treated to her 2023 album Good Riddance back in mid-June, and now some of those fans have returned the favor by voting her as a nominee in one of the most competitive categories.
