While many were initially unsure about Apple’s foray into movies and television, Apple TV+ is quickly carving its way into our hearts as a streaming mainstay. With some of our favorite feel-good comedies, a best-picture win, and some exciting sci-fi dramas, things have really been heating up on the streaming platform. Let’s dive right into it – here are three of our favorite movies you can watch on Apple TV+ right now.
CODA
There’s no way we could leave this one out. The title, CODA, is an acronym for Child of Deaf Adults. Apple snapped this one up after an incredible reception at Sundance 2021, paying a record $25 million, and it’s not hard to see why. The choice paid off after a best-picture win.
We can confidently say that this is not just another boring Oscar-bait film. It’s a crowd-pleaser with heart, and definitely worth a watch. CODA centers around Ruby, the only person in her family who isn’t deaf. When the family business is threatened, Ruby is faced with a difficult choice. Should she pursue her passion at Berklee College of Music, or help her parents in their time of struggle?
Tetris
Tetris, a biopic about the creation of the classic video game, premiered earlier this year. Starring Taron Egerton of Kingsman fame, this film is not just another boring biopic. The film manages to feel like a thriller at times, even including an intense car chase. Fun sprite characters and video game imagery that assists the audience to understand when the setting changes add to the fun atmosphere. It might be a bit surprising, but the story of how Tetris became a global sensation is actually quite fascinating.
Cha Cha Real Smooth
We’re on a mission to get this movie all the attention it deserves. Writer/director/star Cooper Raiff managed to create one of the best and most underappreciated indie dramedies of 2022 in Cha Cha Real Smooth. The stellar cast includes Dakota Johnson as Domino (who makes it incredibly difficult not to fall in love with her chemistry with Cooper Raiff’s character, Andrew), and newcomer Vanessa Burghardt who plays the lovable and sweet autistic character, Lola. If you like coming-of-age dramas with a hint of romance and comedy, Cha Cha Real Smooth will make for the perfect night in.
All of these movies are available to stream now on Apple TV+.
