New year, new contract. SiriusXM announced that later in 2024, it will become the home of the SmartLess podcast, hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, paying a reported $100 million over three years. The podcast is currently housed by Amazon and drops interview-style podcasts weekly. Among its guests have been President Joe Biden, Steven Spielberg, Greta Gerwig, Emma Stone, Idris Elba, and Selena Gomez. Its previous multi-year deal with Amazon was reportedly worth as much as $80 million.
All of SmartLess Media Going to SiriusXM
After the success of SmartLess, the show’s three hosts expanded to create SmartLess Media. Under that umbrella are podcasts like Just Jack & Will, Bad Dates, and Owned, all of which will be joining SmartLess at SiriusXM. After the transition, SiriusXM will be the only place to find the entire catalog of SmartLess episodes, and other exclusive content will be available there, too.
“This groundbreaking new collaboration showcases our power to drive growth for an established podcast while bringing unique value back to our subscribers through exclusive content and events. I’m looking forward to new SmartLess listeners discovering this one-of-a-kind trio’s inimitable style on SiriusXM, and for current fans to see what magic happens when we team up together,” Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM said of the deal.
SiriusXM is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the podcast industry, consistently expanding its listener reach by acquiring or originating some of the most popular podcasts on the market. Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Crime Junkie, Pod Save America, Office Ladies, and How Did This Get Made? are all part of the SiriusXM family.
Other ‘SmartLess’ Streaming Options
In addition to regular SmartLess episodes and other related podcasts, Bateman, Arnett, and Hayes have a documentary about their podcast available to watch. SmartLess: On the Road is streaming now on Max, and it follows the three men throughout their previous American podcast tour. The six-episode docuseries dropped in May of 2023, and it features David Letterman, Will Ferrell, Matt Damon, Jennifer Aniston, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and more as guests.
SmartLess, which currently streams wherever you listen to podcasts, also has an array of live recordings available. Jimmy Kimmel, Kevin Hart, and Mark Cuban are among the podcast’s former live guests, as are some of the aforementioned guests from the docuseries. The podcast began in 2020 as the hosts wanted to stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it has since become one of the top podcasts in the world.
