Showtime App Disappearing Amid Commitments to Expand

Showtime app

The first year of the Paramount+/Showtime merger rollout closes with drama: the Showtime app, Showtime Anywhere, available to subscribers, will close in December as per the fusion of the two services. While Showtime still considers its content part of a particular brand, the streaming options dwindle exclusively to their Paramount+ partnership deal.

Throughout the year, shows on both sides of the previously separate services left streaming altogether. However, even as more closures occur at the end of 2023, the companies commit to an expanded library and continued delivery of content.

What This Means for Showtime Subscribers

Moving forward, for those who have not switched to a Paramount+ with Showtime subscription, the content available to Showtime subscribers will be restricted. However, the new subscription means expanded access to the Paramount+ library. As is the merger’s intention, the companies want to put all streaming under one roof, so those users not ready to quit their access to the Showtime library must officially go along with the rebranding.

December Removals on Paramount+ with Showtime

As the plan with Paramount+ and Showtime marches onward, new streaming options are appearing seemingly to counterbalance the lack of agency with Showtime’s content. Unless Paramount+ is quietly removing titles from its current selection, the only circulating announcements are for what joins the service before the end of the year. After several months of ending shows and removing numerous films and series, the service might finally catch some positive attention for its growth instead of its recalibration.

New and Old Streaming Options Coming Soon

Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers will be treated to dozens of fresh options before 2023 ends. New A24 and Bleecker Street releases, like Showing Up and Golda, highlight the Showtime add-on side, while the Ben Foster-led crime thriller Finestkind and Baby Shark’s Big Movie highlight the big Paramount+ originals of the month. The Envoyssecond season is the only main new scripted series, but many old shows and movies (including Airplane!BraveheartCloverfield, and plenty of Christmas films) fill out the additions. Paramount+ with Showtime will soon be the only way to enjoy the two catalogs, so if anything left in this deepening list of streaming options is appealing, the new banner is the final way to subscribe.
