Ariana Grande, artist behind new music

A plethora of new music was released today. Thanks to offerings from pop icons and niche rappers alike, all music fans have something new to listen to this weekend.

New Music Era for Ariana Grande

Fans of pop princess Ariana Grande have been starved of new music for a few years now, but the depletion ends today with the release of her new single “yes, and?”. Grande, who’s been filming the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked, vocalized prior that she’d be putting all her creative energy into the making of the movie musical.

Because of her focus, her new releases since her 2021 album Positions have been limited to one-off collaborations and a re-release of her 2013 album Yours Truly. Grande worked with The Weeknd in 2023 to record a duet version of his song “Die For You” from his 2016 album Starboy after the song’s internet renaissance. She also recorded a Christmas duet, “Santa, Can’t You Hear Me,” with Kelly Clarkson for Clarkson’s 2021 holiday album. Additionally, Grande stayed relevant on the charts in December 2023 with her 2014 holiday hit “Santa Tell Me” reentering the Billboard Hot 100.

Grande has yet to confirm a release date for her upcoming studio album, but she has stated it will come out sometime this year. The release of “yes, and?” officially marks a new era in music for Grande.

Reign of Rap

Today also marks the return of some prominent rappers. Lil Nas X, the rapper and singer who rose to fame through his record-breaking “Old Town Road,” dropped his new single “J CHRIST” with an accompanying video. Rapper Kid Cudi also released a new studio album, INSANO, while 21 Savage’s new album, american dream, also dropped. Kali Uchis, Jhené Aiko, Bizarrap, Marshmello, The Black Keys, and Chris Young are among others who released new music today.
