‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ Told Us Where All Our Favorite ‘High School Musical’ Characters Stand Today

Calling all High School Musical lovers: we finally have an update on all our favorite characters from the beloved franchise. Thanks to cameos from some of the original cast of the movie franchise on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, we’ve learned the fates of our favorite East High alum.

Corbin Bleu, along with the help of Monique Coleman and Lucas Grabeel, explains the Wildcats’ futures while setting the stage for the fictional upcoming fourth installment of the movie series, which revolves around the class’s 15th high school reunion.

Chad and Taylor

Chad (Bleu) and Taylor (Coleman) first got together at the end of the first film in the High School Musical series. And although they had a few bumps along the way, like Taylor having to patiently wait for Chad to work up the courage to ask her to prom, the two are now happily married.

Ryan and Sharpay

We caught wind of Ryan’s (Grabeel) fate prior to the premiere of the fourth and final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, but the first episode of the season confirmed that Ryan is in a relationship with a man, and Grabeel added that his character is expecting twins with his partner.

We didn’t get an update on Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), but she did get her own film, Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, back in 2011, so we can imagine her fate for ourselves.

Troy and Gabriella

In a plot twist truly no one saw coming (though maybe we should’ve), Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) are in couples’ therapy, an update that was largely glossed over by Bleu. Aside from some pitiful and surprised looks from the students receiving this news, everyone moved on without asking for more detail. We respect it, but our curious hearts need to know that everything will be okay between Troy and Gabriella.

Martha

We’ve known since the very first film that Martha (KayCee Stroh) has a passion for dance, and now she’s making a living through her love for the art form as a world-famous choreographer.

Ms. Darbus

The iconic Ms. Darbus is about to take her final bow. The famed East High drama teacher is preparing to retire, and her retirement has everyone wondering what’s to become of the school’s drama department. Our only request is all of this is that this fictional fourth installment actually gets made. Somebody call Kenny Ortega.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and all three High School Musical films are streaming now on Disney+.
