Here’s Where to Stream the Best Movies About Aliens

The meeting with an alien civilization - blurred aliens figure and light of an UFO spaceship landing in the forest

On Wednesday, July 26, 2023, a former military intelligence officer testified in front of Congress that the United States government is indeed withholding evidence of UFOs and aliens, subsequently causing a stir on social media. While this is the first time anyone associated with the government has so publicly discussed aliens, Hollywood has used the idea for film fodder many times, making some iconic movies in the process. Here’s where you can stream those iconic films.

Independence Day

Will Smith has an impressive film resume, and one of his most legendary roles was in Independence Day, a film that explores just one possible human reaction should aliens attack Earth. It begs the question – in actuality, would the human race band together to save our planet, or would we accept our fate and let the aliens try to deal with the problems that plague us? If you’d rather not weigh such questions, watch Smith fight ETs instead.

Independence Day is streaming now on Starz.

Men in Black

Why not make it a Will Smith double feature? When you’re finished with Independence Day, turn on Men in Black, a movie based on the comic series of the same name that launched a wildly successful film series. We’re not sure what it was about Smith in the late ‘90s that had filmmakers pegging him for the purveyor of justice against aliens, but we’re glad a few casting agents shared that vision.

Men in Black is streaming now on Prime Video.

Star Trek (2009)

See what we mean about Hollywood’s longstanding obsession with extraterrestrials? Star Trek certainly wasn’t the first time Tinsel Town portrayed non-human life on screen, but it’s definitely one of the most famous. If you don’t have time to binge the original series, just watch the 2009 film instead. Plus, it stars Chris Pine. Need we say more?

Star Trek is streaming now on Netflix and Paramount+.

Lilo & Stitch

Not all aliens are bad! And not all alien movies are scary or intense. Some just feature adorable little blue creatures who land in Hawaii and pretend to be dogs. Lilo & Stitch is also one of the best movies about aliens because it features one of the best Disney movie songs of all time – “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride.” It’s not necessary to stream the song on repeat after finishing the movie, but it is highly encouraged.

Alien

Alas, movies about aliens are scary and intense. Alien is a classic film in both the horror and sci-fi genres, and it’s one of the few to have won an Oscar for its efforts (Independence Day took home an Academy Award, as well). It’s also got quite possibly the most memorable birth scene of any movie ever.

Alien is streaming now on Hulu.
