Beyoncé fans rejoice, the entertainment goddess announced during last night’s Super Bowl LVIII that she’s releasing her highly anticipated Act II on March 29. The musician hinted at new music in her Verizon Wireless ad that debuted during the game, and after it aired, her Instagram account and website updated with an album release date.

A Follow-Up Years in the Making

While fans didn’t know exactly when Beyoncé would release Act II, it was widely known that she would be delivering new music at some point. When the singer announced 2022’s Renaissance, she shared on her website that the album was one of a trilogy of albums she worked on during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This announcement comes just months after Beyoncé wrapped her most recent world tour and released the accompanying concert film, and fans on the internet have been surmising that she would be releasing new music sooner than later given various hints she’d left during public appearances and on social media.

In addition to her new music, fans online believe the artist is going to announce a residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, a prediction that was further fueled by Beyoncé’s mention of the venue in her Verizon commercial. Beyoncé fans are also hoping to be treated to a follow-up to “Telephone,” her 2009 collab with Lady Gaga, a theory that was born from some of the visuals Beyoncé released and the “To Be Continued” message left at the end of the song’s music video. In typical Beyoncé fashion, the artist has not commented on either fan theory.

Beyoncé’s Continued Exploration of New Genres

Renaissance is house music, and Act II is country. Once again, eagle-eyed fans predicted Beyoncé was stepping into a new genre for this album from her recent social media posts and public appearances, and she gave everyone a taste of what’s to come by releasing two singles off her upcoming album, “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.” Both singles are streaming now wherever you listen to music, and accompanying visuals to both can be found on YouTube.

Beyoncé has dipped her musical toes into country in the past, finding sonic and visual inspiration from her home state of Texas for well over a decade, and even including the country song “Daddy Lessons” on her 2016 album Lemonade. As noted, Renaissance took the singer outside the genres she’s become best known for, and with Act II taking her closer to her Houston roots, fans will be eager to learn what she releases to close the trilogy.
