Grammy weekend is typically a celebration of the great music from the year prior, but this year, two award-winning artists used it to announce new music. Both Kacey Musgraves and Taylor Swift will be releasing new albums soon, the latter announcement coming with a project name and release date.
Kacey Musgraves Drops Hints on Grammy Weekend
Grammy weekend was a big weekend for Musgraves. Already a winner of prestigious awards like Best Country Album and Album of the Year, Musgraves added to her pile Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “I Remember Everything,” her 2023 collaboration with Zach Bryan. But fans were perhaps more excited about her Instagram activity. Musgraves took over her own grid with a new pastoral aesthetic to announce her upcoming fifth studio album, which she’s calling KM5 until further notice.
During the televised ceremony, a commercial with new Musgraves music aired, prompting fans to visit her website. After the commercial aired on television, the artist posted more photos to Instagram with captions that may be upcoming lyrics. “I’m saying goodbye to the people that I feel are real good at wasting my time. No regrets, baby, I just think that maybe you go your way and I’ll go mine,” one caption read.
Currently, all pre-order options for KM5 say that a release date will be announced before the end of 2024.
Taylor Swift Makes a Definite Announcement
Swift was less subtle than Musgraves with her announcement. When accepting her 13th Grammy Award, Swift said, “I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out April 19th. It’s called The Tortured Poets Department.” Fans were expectedly excited, already weaving theories online despite being incorrect about the announcement on the Grammy stage (many suspected she’d announce the release of Reputation (Taylor’s Version) at the ceremony).
The Tortured Poets Department will be Swift’s 11th studio album, her fourth in four years after 2020’s Folklore and Evermore and 2022’s Midnights, which earned her Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year at last night’s Grammy Awards. Swift also made history by becoming the only artist ever to win Album of the Year four times, surpassing the record she had previously tied with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon.
