A Variety of Options Streaming on Thanksgiving

If the limited Thanksgiving-themed options out there are not appealing to viewers this holiday season, the selections appearing on Thanksgiving Day might be the preferred list. None of the top streaming services have new Thanksgiving content to stream on Thursday, but there is some high-quality content buried in the endless scroll.

The Strong Demand for Christmas on Thanksgiving

If streaming services have successfully predicted viewers’ desires this year, subscribers are asking for Christmas movies starting on November 23. Disney+, Hulu, and Max deliver Christmas content with new and old features, including a 2023 made-for-television Christmas heist film starring Danny Glover as Santa Claus. Some yearly favorites also show up on Hulu this year, along with a dash of Sesame Street on Max.

The rare non-yuletide entries in this bunch stand out. Amid the pile is Max’s new Little Richard documentary, entitled I Am Everything. Master Gardener, the Paul Schrader follow-up to First Reformed and The Card Counter, also covers those looking for anti-holiday vibes this Thanksgiving.

Netflix and Peacock (Mostly) Go the Opposite Direction

Reality TV fans know where to go for their streaming choices, with new episodes of The Real Housewives (of Potomac, Salt Lake City, Beverly Hills, and Miami) showing up at their usual times on Peacock. Netflix also grows its options, with Love Island USA dropping its third season on Thanksgiving (more recent seasons of the show already exist on other platforms). For those preferring scripted entertainment, the typical slate of random releases continues with Minions: The Rise of Gru on Peacock and a brand-new anime called My Daemon on Netflix.

Peacock is not entirely exempt from the Christmas trend, with the new Hallmark movie A Season for Family joining the fold. If you know anything about Hallmark and its endless stream of holiday features each year, you already know whether or not this movie is for you.

Paramount+ and Prime Video Film Choices for Thanksgiving

These final two streaming services also have some anti-holiday selections for viewers. On Paramount+, we have Antoine Fuqua’s boxing film Southpaw, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal as a successful middleweight boxer dealing with personal tragedies, and Rachel McAdams as his wife. On the other end of the spectrum is Prime Video’s addition of Evil Dead Rise. Altogether, the non-Christmas options for streaming this Thanksgiving give just enough for families to argue over once they tear themselves away from the Commanders at the Cowboys NFL game on Paramount+.
