4 TV Series to Stream on Max This September

Danny McBride and Walton Goggins in 'Vice Principals,' streaming now on Max

Many a streamer was frustrated with HBO’s 2023 streaming rebrand, but those who liked the platform before have to admit Max is a better platform than HBO Max, simply because it’s got more options. Here are some of the best options for streaming in September.

Killing Eve

With the aforementioned rebrand and expansion, Max subscribers now have access to multiple AMC+ series, like Killing Eve. This action and adventure drama led by Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer ended in 2022 with one Primetime Emmy to its name, but it’s still mentioned in many a conversation when the streaming obsessed share what they’re watching. Join that conversation by streaming Killing Eve this September. With just over 30 episodes, it’ll be a quick binge.

Somebody Somewhere

Although everything HBO releases is excellent television (save the rare dud, like 2023’s The Idol), the problem with the cable network is that it releases so much content it’s hard to pay attention to its entire catalog. For this reason, shows like Somebody Somewhere fly under the radar despite being far better than many shows garnering more publicity.

Somebody Somewhere is a comedy set in Kansas that does a better job of portraying life in the Midwest than any show in recent history. It’s certainly received critical acclaim, but it deserves far more attention from the general public.

Hard Knocks

Hard Knocks has been officially running since the early 2000s. Although it hasn’t always had a steady airing rhythm, it’s always made a comeback to bring football fans a little closer to their favorite NFL teams and players. This year, for its 20th season, Hard Knocks followed the infamous Aaron Rodgers as he prepared for his first season with the New York Jets after a storied career with the Green Bay Packers. With only four episodes this season, it’s an easy watch for anyone interested in the New York Jets or Rodgers.

Vice Principals

If there’s one thing Danny McBride is going to continue doing, it’s make hysterical and irreverent television for HBO. McBride had multiple projects prior to his hit The Righteous Gemstones, and thanks to Max, viewers can watch his evolution as a television maven. Vice Principals is a great place to start. While it’s not his first show, it’s one of McBride’s best, and there aren’t many episodes to get through. It’ll give you even more context for why Gemstones is as insane (in the best way) as it is.

Each of these shows is streaming now on Max.
