Medical dramas have always been popular, and Skymed’s most recent season has viewers as invested as any show of its ilk. While all medical dramas have some elements in common, the best ones have a defining quality that grabs the attention of viewers. Each of these four medical dramas has just that, and you’ll be sucked in from the minute you start bingeing.
‘The Resident’
The Resident just finished airing on network television in 2023, making the entire series available to binge now. The medical drama stars Matt Czuchry (Gilmore Girls) as the titular resident working at the Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. The series has six seasons total, making it far less of a commitment than shows like ER or Grey’s Anatomy, but still something with enough content for bingers to really sink their teeth into.

‘Private Practice’
If you love Grey’s Anatomy, you’ll love Private Practice. The latter is a spin-off of the former, and it was also created and executive-produced by Shonda Rhimes. Per the title, the series focuses on Dr. Addison Montgomery’s (Kate Walsh) work in the private medical sector.
Though not nearly as successful as its originating medical drama, Private Practice has plenty to offer. The privatized element makes it intriguing, and anyone who’s been missing Grey’s since the strikes can get their fill of Rhimes before the iconic medical drama returns in March.

‘House’
Of all the medical dramas on this list, House will take the longest to binge, but it’ll be well worth the time. Starring Hugh Laurie as the titular Dr. Gregory House, the series follows the work of a brilliant diagnostician whose demons and fraught personal and professional relationships constantly stand in the way of his efforts to solve complex medical problems. Laurie is fantastic as House, and the supporting performances and side plots make the series all the more intoxicating.
House is streaming now on Prime Video, Peacock, and Hulu.
‘The Good Doctor’
If finding a series that’s still running is important to you, stream The Good Doctor. The series, which follows Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), an autistic Savant surgeon who joins the surgical team at the prestigious San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital, was adapted from a South Korean show of the same name, and its seventh season is set to air beginning this February. If you start now, you should be able to catch up in time for the premiere.
