Amazon’s Prime Video is easily overlooked as a major competitor in the ongoing streaming wars, but the truth is the platform has been dropping some fantastic shows over the past few years. In fact, we would argue they’re leading the charge when it comes to compelling animated series from creators in the U.S. Need further proof? Let’s talk about some of the best animated series you can watch on Prime Video right now.
Invincible
Invincible stands as one of the strongest arguments for Prime Video’s place in the pantheon of American animated series. Based on a comic of the same name, Invincible is a superhero origin story done right. It’s violent, bloody, and doesn’t hold back. More importantly, all of these factors serve to make the series feel more true-to-life as opposed to over-the-top. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re in luck because Season 2 drops on November 3rd.
Undone
This is an animated series like no other you’ve ever seen before. From the rotoscoped animation style to the time-spanning plotline, Undone is a unique series made by a group of creatives who are collectively firing on all cylinders. Lead actress Rosa Salazar is a highlight, truly able to show off her powerful acting in a way that goes beyond the voice, a feat that is made possible by the rotoscoped animation style. You need to watch this series, just make sure you don’t come Undone in the process.
The Boys Presents: Diabolical
If you’ve seen any Prime Video original series at this point, it might be safe to assume it’s The Boys. The series has been a widespread topic of conversation, and rightly so. When it was announced that the universe of The Boys would branch off into animated territory, it seemed like a natural next step. The Boys Presents: Diabolical is an anthology series of short animations set in the universe of The Boys. Not every episode is great, but they’re all fun, unique, and short. It’s a great introduction to the tone of the universe, and a nice sign of potential things to come from the universe in the future.
The Legend of Vox Machina
The Legend of Vox Machina is brash, exciting, and downright hilarious. Watching this series feels like a night of playing Dungeons & Dragons with your friends, cracking up and barely taking the game seriously enough to get through it. It should be no surprise it feels that way either because that’s essentially the story behind the creation of the show. The Legend of Vox Machina is based on one of the early live-streamed adventures of the gang over at Critical Role. (P.S.: Don’t worry if tabletop gaming isn’t your thing – this series is accessible and fun for anyone who likes fantasy and laughter.)
Each of these animated series is streaming now on Prime Video.
